Be a Crown

My lifelong friend Milissa posted a little Bible lesson and prayer this week about being like Ruth. I wanted to tell her she already is like Ruth. Her daughters sing her praises like the daughters of the Proverbs woman. She is trustworthy and honest. My friend makes me proud.

My friend is full of virtue and good character. She teaches those attributes to her two daughters as well. My oldest daughter is one week older than her oldest daughter. My younger daughter is one week younger than her younger daughter. The presence of those girls in my daughters’ lives is profound. Because of the friendship they experience with these two sisters, my girls understand the true meaning of woman—bonding as it should be. There is loyalty and value. There is support. These girls are 10 and 12 and have more respect and love for each other than most adults. I attribute that to the way my friend raises her daughters (and how I hope I’m raising mine). I am forever thankful God saw fit to let me be part of my friend’s life from a very early age and continue that friendship through life.

The greatest lesson we learn in the Book of Ruth is one of loyalty. “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” My goodness that kind of loyalty is amazing. She begged her mother-in-law to not send her away even if it was for her own good. Even though going back to her people would’ve been easy, the easy thing isn’t always the right thing. The thing that benefits YOU is not always the right thing. Your actions should show that you consider other people. What a wonderful lesson; One that I need reminded of. I am so thankful for the loyalty that my friend has shown me, and that same loyalty her daughters have shown mine.

Be a Ruth. Be an Esther. Be a Proverbs Woman. Be the kind of momma who shows her daughters how to be a Milissa.
