Anything Else is Just the Icing

Writer: Stacey ToneyStacey Toney

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work

2 Corinthians 9:8

Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

Job 4:8

It’s been a rough year. Who even knows what to say about all that’s gone on in all of our lives. The world is a crazy place to live in.

When my life is over, I hope I am remembered for the good that I did in this world. It would be a great travesty to leave anything but a God glorifying legacy. This may not make sense to some who read it, and then again, it may make perfect sense to others.

I struggle every day to stay focused. Far too often I let the lack of others’ scruples affect my mentality. I have taught lesson after lesson about knowing that you can’t control the actions of others, but you can control your actions.

I have a habit of getting frustrated when people don‘t realize other people’s intentions. I am naive. I assume all people have good intentions...until they don’t. When that happens, I expect that other people will see what I see. When they don’t, I get so bewildered. Really what I need to be saying is, “Hey...this ain’t my party, so I don’t have to stay.”

Forgiveness is not something that comes easily to me. It’s something I work hard to achieve. I have to talk myself down from letting that ugliness get in and stay. I have a new plan:

1) list my blessings (their wrongs do not matter)

2) pray (for others, for myself, for the world)

3) move on (what else can you do)

As I said, the only person I am in control of is myself. Letting anything steal joy away from my life with my family is just not acceptable any more. I have a few things in this life I need. That’s my God, my family, and my few good and true friends. Anything else is just icing. And I like my icing plain...don’t be trying to add anything unnecessary to the icing on my life cake, y’all. I say, “No thanks. I’m good.”

Be Discerning Enough to Desist
